An international study on asthma, published online in the European Respiratory Journal, found that the incidence and especially the cost of childhood asthma associated with air pollution has risen sharply. Researchers in America and Switzerland argue that the overall financial burden of pollution-induced asthma is significantly higher than originally estimated in risk assessments. In addition, an increase in the incidence may be caused by exposure to road traffic air pollution. Their study was carried out in areas with high regional levels of air pollution and major roads near residential areas. As a result, it turned out that the total amount of additional asthma-specific costs due to road traffic pollution is up to $ 18 million per year.
Asthma is cured by the love of parents
Scientists from Michigan have found that kissing and tenderness of
parents with children with bronchial asthma have a beneficial effect on the
well-being of the latter. An unusual experiment was carried out with the
participation of 80 small patients.
The children were asked to keep diaries in which they were required to note
their own well-being and manifestations of the relationship between their
parents. The results showed that the symptoms of the disease appear less often
and milder in those children whose parents are affectionate with each other and
show tenderness in the presence of children. At the same time, it is noted that
quarrels and tensions in the family can have a negative effect on the
well-being of children.
Commentary: Children are sensitive not only to their relationship with their parents, but also to the manifestations of their feelings for each other. Scientists advise not to be shy to kiss and hug each other in front of children.
