A patient with bronchial asthma is very concerned about attacks of shortness of breath and suffocation. During such an attack, a person usually breathes slowly, his breath is shortened, and exhalation is prolonged and difficult. It is difficult for him to exhale completely due to a spasm of the bronchioles, and the air is retained in the lungs, as a result of which they are stretched.
In the treatment of a patient with bronchial asthma, special physical exercises are important. Under the influence of therapeutic exercises, the function of the central nervous system improves, due to which the painful impulses that cause spasm of the muscles of the bronchi are reduced, and the depth of breathing increases. At the same time, the work of the heart improves. As a result of all this, the patient has shortness of breath, asthma attacks are reduced, and confidence in recovery appears.
During an attack, the patient should occupy the most comfortable position – it is best to sit with your arms apart and your elbows on the table, and put your head on the clasped hands. In this position, exhalation occurs faster, spasm of bronchioles decreases.
Therapeutic gymnastics can be practiced the very next day after an attack.
Along with predominantly gymnastic exercises, breathing is very useful, which helps to deepen breathing, mainly to increase exhalation. Why is it important? Since bronchial muscle spasm is observed in bronchial asthma, air with a large amount of carbon dioxide is trapped in the lungs. It must be deleted. The increased expiratory flow during exercise helps to remove this residual air.
When the patient learns to control breathing, it will become easier for him to endure asthma attacks. To achieve the greatest effect, it is recommended during the exhalation to pronounce sounds that enhance the exhalation: “y”, “f”, “w”, “h”, “and”. It is recommended to inhale through the nose, and exhale through the mouth. When exhaling, it is advisable to draw in the stomach: this deepens the breath.
For exhalation training, the complex includes special exercises with a gymnastic stick, a club, a light ball.
Physical therapy classes prevent the formation of emphysema, curvature of the spine and other possible changes.
In addition to physiotherapy, asthma suffers from walking in the morning before work and in the evening before bedtime lasting from thirty minutes to an hour, preferably in dry, calm weather, in winter – not in severe frost. Useful tireless rowing. Those who have skills can safely go skiing leisurely. You can recommend the game of volleyball, croquet, towns. Useful light massage of the back and chest, air baths, and in the summer – swimming in warm water without dipping the head.
When prescribing physical exercises, the doctor takes into account the clinical picture of the disease, the individual characteristics of the person, the degree of his physical training. Strengthen the load on the body should be gradual.
Exercises, as a rule, pick up simple ones and perform them at a calm pace, without noticeable stress. At the beginning of classes, you need to learn how to breathe correctly: in this process, the chest and diaphragm should participate as much as possible.
Together, all these actions greatly facilitate the course of the disease and improve the quality of life of a patient with bronchial asthma .
